Subject

Oral History with Thelma Rodriguez

Description

Abstract: Thelma’s father was born raised in Hicks Camp to Mexican immigrants, and her parents migrated within California for agricultural work. He was a photographer who developed his own photos, many of which hang in La Historia. Both of her parents labored in the berry fields of El Monte, and she grew up in Hicks Camp and later in other parts of El Monte. Remembers growing up in El Monte, the challenges of schooling and work and racism/discrimination in both, and recreation in and around Hicks Camp (including hopping trains into town).
